I'm a huge fan of making homemade pizza, but what's pizza without a great pizza sauce recipe? My easy recipe for homemade pizza sauce uses only a handful of ingredients (mostly pantry staples!) to make a sauce that will rival your favorite pizza parlor.
Heat the olive oil over medium heat in a saucepan. Add the garlic and cook for 2 minutes, stirring often, until fragrant. Add the oregano and crushed red pepper and cook for 1 minute. Once fragrant, add the crushed tomatoes and sugar and reduce the heat to low.
Simmer for 20 minutes, until thickened. Stir in the butter and season to taste with salt and pepper and cool to room temperature.
Storage Instructions
Cool your pizza sauce to room temperature and store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days. To freeze, store the sauce in a freezer-safe ziplock bag, pressing out as much of the air as possible. Freeze flat for up to 6 months and defrost overnight in the fridge before using.
