Toast beans and walnuts.
Toss beans and walnuts with oil, salt, and pepper and toast for 20 min in the oven.
Mix wet ingredients.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients and spices until smooth.
Pulse the oats until it's a fine meal, then add the beans and walnuts and pulse until uniform.
Fold the wet ingredients into the pulsed bean and walnut mixture until the mixture holds together.
Shape the mixture into patties and refrigerate for 20 minutes. You can also freeze them at this point.
