This is a totally homemade green bean casserole recipe!

Step 1

Blanch the green beans. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and. add the green beans. Cook for 3-5 minutes until bright green, and drain. 

Step 2

Saute the mushrooms.  Heat oil in a dutch oven and saute the mushrooms until very golden brown. Remove and set aside.

Step 3

Make the roux. Melt the butter and saute the shallots and garlic. Add flour and cook for 3-4 minutes. 

Step 4

Finish sauce.  Add the broth, cream cheese, half and half, and Worcestershire and simmer until thick.  Add the mushrooms. 

Step 5

Add the green beans.  Add the green beans to the sauce and toss well. Season to taste with salt and pepper.    

Step 6

Bake.  Pour the green beans and sauce into a prepared baking dish and top with crispy onion. Bake until hot and bubbly.
