Step 1

Render the bacon. Cook the bacon low and slow until crispy. Transfer to a plate and save 3 tablespoons of bacon fat for the dumplings. 

Step 2

Mix the dough. Mix the sour cream, milk, flour, chives, baking powder, and bacon fat together until well-mixed. 

Step 3

Saute veggies.  Saute the veggies in butter until soft. Sprinkle with flour and cook for 3-4 minutes. 

Step 4

Add the broth. Add the broth, chicken, and remaining soup ingredients and bring to a simmer. 

Step 5

Add the dumplings.  Use a cookie scoop to portion the dough onto the soup. Cover and simmer.

Step 6

Finish soup.  Simmer until the dumplings are fluffy and cooked through. Serve immediately.
