Step 1

Brown your butter. Melt butter in a small saucepan and cook over medium-low heat until golden brown. Cool slightly. 

Step 2

Mix wet ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all the wet ingredients plus sugar until smooth. 

Step 3

Fold in dry ingredients. Fold in the dry ingredients and mix well, then fold in the brown butter. 

Step 4

Mix until smooth. Mix the batter until smooth. The key here is not to overmix, so using a rubber spatula is recommended. 

Step 5

Bake. Spread the batter in a greased cake pan, top with almonds and turbinado sugar, and bake until a cake tester comes out clean. Serve warm!
